Dr Alex SM Dovban is a passionate practitioner of Dentistry and a firm believer in providing quality and holistic dental care with compassion and integrity.
Dr Alex SM Dovban received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) with Honours from Otago University Dental School in New Zealand, which was ranked number 8 in world rankings for a past decade.
Prior moving to Singapore, Dr Dovban was part of Royal Flying Doctors Team in Darwin Northern Territory in Australia. During this time he managed a wide range of complex restorative and surgical treatments for medically compromised patients at the remote aboriginal communities. He also started practicing Laser Dentistry and CAD CAM technology dentistry at the very beginnings of introductions of this technologies into dentistry in a private sector.
He completed his post-graduate degree in Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Periodontology and Implantology from National University of Singapore (NUS), during which he treated patients at the National University Hospital (NUH) and National Dental Centre (SGH).
He was awarded prestigious Membership of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Periodontology (RCS M Perio (Ed)) in 2013.
He holds full dental registration in Singapore and Australia and is accredited Invisalign provider. He is a past Member of International Team of Implantology (ITI) and served on board of Society of Periodontology Singapore (SPS) as Honorary Secretary and Treasure for a few years. Dr Alex Dovban passion for teaching lead him to take up part time faculty position at NYP at Dental Hygiene and Therapy training program in 2015-2016.
Not one to rest his laurels, Dr Dovban went on to pursue advanced post-graduate training in Orthodontics (Braces) at New York University (USA). In 2017 he completed his full time orthodontic clinical Fellowship at NYU during, which he managed multiple types of malocclusion by using conventional orthodontics, Invisalign as well as Growth modification with Dento-Facial Orthopaedic appliances in young growing patients. He was also involved in teaching of Invisalign at the DDS program at NYU as part of his fellowship. During his orthodontic training he was privileged to learn novel technique of Accelerated Orthodontic movements - Micro Osseous Perforations (MOPs) from it’s inventors Prof. Chistina Teixeira and Dr. Mani Alikhani.
His philosophy of holistic dental treatment is emphasising long term stability and predictability of treatments outcomes with most acceptable biological, aesthetic and functional solutions. His main research and clinical interest areas are bone regeneration, dental implants and periodontal plastic surgery. Dr Alex Dovban is a strong believer that early orthodontic intervention (Phase I) could be highly beneficial to young patients with significant skeletal malocclusions. In many cases interceptive orthodontics may help to avoid extraction or even surgeries during comprehensive teens orthodontics.
Dr Dovban’s conviction that a happy and confident individual is one with a healthy mouth and a great smile led him to start ABSOLUTE SMILE DENTAL.
